Today, artificial intelligence one of the major areas in the field of technology and computers is emerging at an unprecedented level, at a rapid speed. Devices are becoming more smaller and smarter. First were the Desktop Machines, then came laptops, then was the rise of mobiles, smartphones, tablets and now devices and technology has gone so high that, all the details you get it in your hand using the smart watches.
What is it that is building technology so fast and what is it that is making machines intelligent? It is Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is the branch of computer science concerned with making computers behave like humans. The term was coined in 1956 by John McCarthy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
AI is a big idea which replicates the human brain into a machine and then machine behaves, acts, performs actions, gives advice in the way, we humans do. It consists of various other domains and more specific areas, such as:
Neural Networks, Expert Systems, Embedded Systems and Robotics, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Image Processing and Computer Vision, Data Analytic’s and many more. AI is an area where more of task specific work is done, advises are given, classification, recognition of different components are done.
The big names in Information Technology like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro and also many start-ups and new ventures in the field of IT are working on Artificial Intelligence and bringing AI to consumers, so as to provide better solutions, better approach and better service.
AI systems today have impressive but narrow capabilities. It seems that we’ll keep whittling away at their constraints, and in the extreme case they will reach human performance on virtually every intellectual task. It’s hard to fathom how much human-level AI could benefit society, and it’s equally hard to imagine how much it could damage society if built or used incorrectly.
Also a new initiative has brought into picture which is the OpenAI.
OpenAI is a non-profit artificial intelligence (AI) research company, associated with business magnate Elon Musk, that aims to carefully promote and develop open-source friendly AI in such a way as to benefit, rather than harm, humanity as a whole. The organization aims to “freely collaborate” with other institutions and researchers by making its patents and research open to the public. The company is supported by over US$1 billion in commitments; however, only a tiny fraction of the $1 billion pledged is expected to be spent in the first few years.
So here goes by saying that the next bring area of research and development is the field of Artificial Intelligence.
