First a short brief about Microsoft, then about Surface generation and its birth, further moving to Surface Studio and wrapping up with its technical specifications and features. Let’s dive into the world of new age desktop machine by Microsoft.
Microsoft, as we all know is one of the biggest technology company providing varied set of products and services. Products include the Desktop PCs, Mobile (Lumia Series), Xbox, Microsoft Surface and many more. While the services include providing businesses and organizations with efficient Operating System (Windows), Tools to keep your task organized (Microsoft Office), Mobile Apps and more. Founded by Bill Gates, the present head of the company is Mr. Satya Nadella. After the new CEO driving the company, Microsoft has achieved great value in the market. Some include: Launching the new Windows OS (Windows 10), Cortana (Smart agent of Windows similar to Siri in the case of Apple), Acquiring the mobile giant Nokia and launching a new segment of mobile handsets with the brand Lumia.
Microsoft previously (back in the last year) had been in the news with the acquisition of the social media LinkedIn (An article for the same is provided on the website). Recently the organization has partnered with the one of the largest Ecommerce Portal of India named Flipkart. They have partnered for a cloud partnership (An article has been posted on the website for this news). With acquiring and partnering with new business, to launching new OS and mobile handsets, Microsoft has launched their new Desktop PC called as the Surface Studio.
The born of Surface took place in the year 2012 by the then former CEO Steve Ballmer at Los Angeles. Surface was the first major initiative by Microsoft to integrate its Windows operating system with its own hardware, and is the first PC designed and distributed solely by Microsoft. Microsoft Surface is a series of touchscreen Windows personal computers and interactive whiteboards designed and developed by Microsoft. The devices are manufactured by Pegatron and are designed to be premium devices that set examples to Windows OEMs.
The Surface Series consists of five main items, listed as:
- The Surface line of hybrid tablets, with optional detachable keyboard accessories and an optional stylus.
- The Surface Pro line of professional hybrid tablets use similar accessories but consisted much higher version of processor and better speed.
- The Surface Book, a notebook with detachable screen.
- The Surface Studio, a 28-inch all-in-one desktop that adjusts into a digital drafting table with stylus and on-screen Surface Support.

Microsoft Surface Studio:
Our main focus in this article is on Surface Studio (Grab a look on the video). So lets us now talk about Surface Studio. The heart of the Surface Studio is its 28-inch PixelSense display. It’s stunning to look at and it’s truly one of the best desktop monitors I’ve ever used. It makes things feel awesome and amazing because you can’t see the pixels — text, videos, and pictures just look great on this thing. The Studio uses a 4500 x 3000 (192 dpi) resolution, primarily because it actually has a 3:2 aspect ratio.
The display gives you a huge canvas for all kids of work. Use it upright or as a drafting table. The 28 inch screen is foldable and the display is stunning. The entire display is very thin with just 13mm thickness and it supports touch and pressure sensitive Surface Pens found on tablets. Microsoft in this PC uses a zero-gravity hinge, with which you can move the screen to different angles by using a single finger. The drawing process has been made much easier by introducing the Dial.
The accessories Dial supports minimal apps provided by Microsoft. The Microsoft surface studio is not suitable for gamers (not designed for gaming), though games work well but are not recommended. The system is majorly for artistic professionals and creative artists looking for high end configured device. The device comprises of the following ports: 4 USB 3.0 ports, SD Card Reader, headphone jack and Mini Display Port.
The device is crafted in an amazing and stunning manner with impressive looks and design. Lacks good quality and high end GPU and CPU, but the looking forward for more variants from Microsoft with high and better GPU configurations. Perfect for designers, creative artists, illustrators and other business professionals.
