After a long time, here I am for you, highlighting important updates on technology and also different write-ups on artificial intelligence, entrepreneurs, mobile devices and a lot more. With this article, I would make you aware of the newly launched update by WhatsApp which is regarding the group video calls.
WhatsApp, the messaging platform owned by Facebook is constantly upgrading its platform in order to provide better service and improved usability to the users. In the past few months and years, WhatsApp has grown in a tremendous manner and today it is more than just a messaging and chatting platform. Founded by Brian Acton and Jan Koum in the year 2009, WhatsApp initially just focused on to one to one and group messaging, but today it has additional and tremendous features. Post the acquisition of WhatsApp by the social media giant, Facebook, it evolved over the years and today WhatsApp is more than simply communicating one on one.
Keeping in mind the user level interests and the market growth, Facebook then slowly kept on upgrading the WhatsApp platform with new innovative ideas and plans. Some of the initial updates included, end-to-end encryption of the messages and the data being shared through the platform, introducing the WhatsApp Web for desktop and laptop systems, WhatsApp calling, improvised camera features, 24 hours disappearing statuses (the one which created a lot of negative impacts and Facebook had to bring the permanent status back into the application) and many many more. With continuous improvements and updates, WhatsApp emerged to be one of the biggest social media and messaging platform in order to send and receive information in the form of text messages, audios, videos, pictures and a lot more than that.

Video calling was first launched in the app on November 14, 2016, and since then work has been done on the same in order to improve its quality and allow the users to communicate in a seamless manner. On Monday, July 30, 2018, WhatsApp came up with a new update and it included the WhatsApp Group Video Calling.
The group video calling feature was first launched for only the iOS users and then slowly it was available for Android users in the beta versions. Now it is available for all the users and more than 1 billion users of the messaging platform can take advantage of this feature. The feature works normally as the video call, simply by tapping the video icon in the chat. Once the call is initiated the plus symbol can be clicked and a number of users can be added to the same call. Currently, WhatsApp group video calling supports a maximum of 4 users and not more than that.
To describe this new update in a nutshell, following things:
- Video call to a maximum of 4 people at a time
- Anywhere, Anytime. Simply needs a data network connection
- Group video calling is end-to-end encrypted and secured.
- Designed in a way that supports remote regions of the world with different network conditions.
- Easy to use, simple and better quality.
The above features and simplicity make it stand apart from other apps or software which allows group video calling.
